Over the years we had a few customers wanting clarification on when we attempt to charge them, and how that is related to invoice dates, due dates, and domain expiry dates.

Let’s first talk about products other than registered domains. (e.g. Hosting, SSL certificates)

The invoice for a monthly billing plan is generated 14 days before the due date. Annual and other terms are set for 30 days before the due date. Due date is based on the start date + term length and so on.

We attempt to charge the credit card on file three (3) days before the due date. So on a monthly invoice, for example, a charge attempt is taken 11 days after the invoice is generated. Upon failure, we try again for the next three (3) weeks, once per week.

For registered domains it looks a bit different.

A domain’s expiry date is when the term of the registration ends. At Hosting Nation, we set the due date for domain renewals to be 30 days before the expiry date. This gives our customers a bit of a grace period if payment falls through.  30 days before the due date is when domain renewal invoices are generated. Thus domain invoices are generated 60 days before the expiry date and are due 30 days before expiry.
If a credit card is on file, we attempt to charge the card three (3) days before the due date, 33 days before expiry.

If you have any questions please contact our support team.

Page Guru makes building a website for your business easy.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 11, 2019

Vancouver Island, BC,May 11, 2019 – Today, Page Guru launched a new site that allows time-crunched small business owners to create fully-functional websites of their very own, regardless of how much (or how little) technical experience they have.

Page Guru’s main appeal is its simplicity: select your Facebook page, choose a template, and your website is ready to go. Page Guru handles the nitty-gritty technical details for you, so you don’t have to worry about searching for hosting or designing your site. Best of all, the websites look great, and they’re automatically updated whenever you add content to your Facebook page.

For people who want more control and customization, Page Guru offers three domain options: a free sub-domain, bring your own domain (also free), or a personalized .com domain for a small annual fee. Whichever you choose, you gain access to all the tools you need to make the site your own. Features such as eye-catching themes and dynamic layouts are all tweaked with a few simple clicks.

Aaron Schneider, owner of Schneider Constructs, says Page Guru has removed all the stress from managing his own website: “I was avoiding my website and only updating Facebook. I could never remember how the website controls worked. I continually put it off until the website was hopelessly out of date. With Page Guru, I can continue to update Facebook, and never have to worry about my website being out of date again. It is so simple now.”

Page Guru’s author, Erik Weisner, created this service because he knew that a lot of small business owners are comfortable using Facebook but daunted by website design and upkeep. He believes that removing the technical barriers that come with creating and maintaining a website will make the internet a richer place for everyone.

###

About Page Guru: Page Guru is a Vancouver Island-based tech startup committed to helping small businesses, especially Facebook-based businesses, create and maintain professional websites of their very own. Page Guru is partnered with Hosting Nation to give business owners the best price possible, amazing customer service, and the fast, beautiful websites they’ve always wanted.

We just launched our new website with the all new backend billing and management systems. Managing your hosting & domains will be easier and a more intuitive experience.
The new website merges 3 of our websites into one dual currency (USD/CAD) website for single point access on one domain name; www.hostingnation.ca
All of our websites we’ve historically used will now redirect to www.hostingnation.ca, whether you were on hostingwithus.com, domainswithus.com, hosting-nation.com, or hosting-nation.ca – you are now on our new website.
Most of you will need to use our password reset tool to be able to login now. This is due to the inability to migrate older username and passwords from the other billing systems.
How do I login now?
  1. Browse to the website here www.hostingnation.ca
  2. Select HELP in the main menu, then LOST PASSWORD RESET in the sub menu drop down.
  3. Now simply enter your account email address and press SUBMIT.
  4. You will receive an email shortly afterwards with a password reset link in it. Click on the link and enter your new password you wish to use and save it. Now you are ready to login!
Renewals & credit cards.
For those of you previously on hostingwithus.com, all your passwords and credit info remained the same. For those on hosting-nation.com (USA), you will need to update your credit info as it would not import due to encryption. For our Canadians on hosting-nation.ca we were able to manually import your credit card info.
New features!
We won’t go into this in detail in this announcement making it longer, but for those that have hosting accounts and you are used to using cPanel for everything, you will now be able to use your account login area to access everything you need without logging into cPanel!

We are trying hard to make website management easier for those that build and edit websites. Things like single sign-on, Spam Experts email, new cloud VPS offerings and even our shared hosting got an upgrade to cloud computing and SSD drives! WordPress will have easy one click installs right from the customer area!

If you are a web professional involved in launching new customer websites, you will want to check out our new Agency plan designed just for you!

Thanks for bearing with us through the migration and we hope you enjoy the new website!

This is a copy of the email we’ve sent out to all our domain name customers.

Email Subject: Urgent News from Hosting Nation. We are moving your domains!

You are receiving this email because you have a domain registered with Hosting Nation and your email address is the Registrant email contact.

What is happening?

Due to a recent major price increase at our domain provider Enom, and rather poor service we’ve received, we are moving to a new domain provider. We have had an enterprise level Enom account since 2006, and now are moving all our domains to our new provider – Hexonet.

Your domain will still be managed by Hosting Nation entirely. Our upstream provider of domains is what is changing. You will continue to login and pay Hosting Nation for domains.

How is this going to happen?

To achieve this, we need your cooperation. Since all the domains we manage (your domains) have to be officially ‘moved’ from our Enom account to our Hexonet account, we need your EPP Key for each domain name registered with us. When your domain renewal comes due, and you pay for the renewal, the domain will physically move from our old Enom account to our new Hexonet account. But in order for that to happen, we 1st need the EPP Key for each domain to be renewed. We cannot ‘see’ your EPP Key, but we can send it to your email address on the Registrant contact for the domain name.

What do I need to do?

We are going to send out your EPP Key to you for each domain name you have registered with us. All you need to do is forward that email back to us at epp@hosting-nation.com

That’s it! Not so hard eh? We have also attached a screenshot of what the email will look like when you receive your EPP Key (see below or attachment in email).

The result!

The next time your domain renews with us, it will actually renew & transfer from our old account to our new one. We thought this would

Got Questions?

What if I don’t send you the EPP Key?

You will then stay on our Enom account where you are now, and as of May 30th this month the prices will increase significantly to help us cover the Enom price increase we will incur. Don’t say we didn’t warn you!

What if I don’t want to renew my domain?

No worries, simply don’t send the EPP Key back to us. You are choosing to not renew anyway, so just let it expire where it is.

How do I know this is not some phishing or fraud scheme?

The term “cloud” is used a lot these days on the internet. You have probably heard of cloud storage services such as Dropbox, Google Drive, or Microsoft’s OneDrive.  These services provide storage for your files that can be accessible from many devices. Cloud hosting is somewhat different as it consists of CPU, memory and storage resources.

Our cloud servers use virtualized environments of resources provided by large physical servers called hypervisors. Each server sits beside the others on the hypervisor, fully isolated from each other. Add to this the isolation provided by CloudLinux and you have a great shared hosting platform.

But wait a minute, the more technical minded of  you say.  This sounds just like traditional Virtual Private Servers or VPS. Yes, so far, it does.  In fact we call one of our products a VPS to use a familiar terminology. But a cloud server has some added benefits to traditional VPS.

  • Near limitless flexibility with resource sizes.
  • On the fly resource upgrades.
  • Significantly better redundancy
  • Centralized redundant storage

The first two allow us to upgrade (or downgrade) server specifications quickly. The second two  allow a cloud server to be hosted on any hypervisor or migrated to another one because data is stored not on local hard drives but on a centralized storage system called a SAN.

This is the system we use to host our shared servers and higher end hosting products. If you have any questions just let us know.

Try a VPS server for your business…

Today we are raising our retail domain name rates on both our US and Canadian websites to bring us up to par. Hosting Nation’s last domain price increase was in 2013 when Verisign, CIRA (.CA) as well as PIR (.ORG) all increased their bulk prices and domain providers including Hosting Nation found it necessary to adjust their prices accordingly.

Although being a boutique hosting company, over the years we’ve offered domain rates on par or lower than larger competitors such as GoDaddy. We plan on continuing our competitive culture but have noticed in many cases our rates fell well below and in some cases have been sold at a loss.

For example on our Canadian website we have charged $13.40CAN for .COM for years, which converts to $9.78USD, while GoDaddy is asking $14.99USD (+ ICANN fee of $.018) for a total of $15.17USD on renew. A difference of $5.39USD! It’s been great for you as we didn’t compensate for our Canadian dollar drop.

Our corporate culture was never intended to be the cheapest place on the block, but one that provides more value for our hosted services. We sincerely hope your experience with us has been a positive one.

New Retail Domain Prices

For our retail clients, domain prices will increase as of March 1st, 2016. The new rates will be slightly higher than previous prices, however we have strived to keep our prices competitive. Naturally our Canadian dollar rates will rise more significantly than our US dollar rates due to the poor value on the CAN dollar at this time. We hope that will change soon!

Canadian Dollar US Dollar
.COM $18.95
.NET $21.55
.ORG $20.70
.INFO $20.75
.CA $26.80 (will come down later this year)
.COM $13.90
.NET $15.65
.ORG $15.00
.INFO $15.05
.CA $19.40 (will come down later this year)

Domain Volume Rates

If you have more than 10 domains you qualify for our volume rates. For more information about the volume rates and how you can start taking advantage of them, please email us or give us a call and speak with one of our representatives.

Some Example Volume Rates in USD

.COM $11.23
.NET $13.53
.ORG $12.98
.INFO $13.01
.CA $17.44

We appreciate your business, and we will continue to strive towards excellent customer service at a competitive rate.

Should you have any questions, please give us a call at 1-888-558-4678
